Celestial Scars (2014!Destiel): Chapter 1

Another day, another fight between Dean and Chuck as the latter whined about the lack of toilet paper.

“We should all just…stop fighting, take a deep breath, and start a yoga ses-“

“Shut up, Cas!” Dean narrowed his eyes. “Don’t think I don’t know what goes on at those so-called sessions.”

Castiel’s face remained calm and detached, but Chuck gave him a worried glance. Everyone knew about the tension between the group’s leader and the former angel. It was something Cas had wanted to forget after what had happened before Sam and Dean had parted ways. The angel – now a human junkie – stayed by Dean’s side, but only in body. In spirit, their profound bond had been broken long ago.

“Alright then,” Cas replied to Dean’s outburst and walked out of the room. He went to his own, decorated with a hand-woven rug, a curtain of beads and dream catchers Dean had once bought him hanging on the walls. He lied down on his cot and pulled the threadbare blankets over his shoulders, too tired and exasperated to undress. Night was beginning to fall, and Dean would be going out to find more survivors. Cas would regularly join him, but not tonight.

Tonight, Cas would be by himself and nothing Dean could say or do would move him. Or could it? Dean had never tried, so they would never know. When he saw Dean pass by his room, he blew out his candle and pretended to sleep. He didn’t need another confrontation. Besides, it wasn’t as if Dean was ever happy these days. Cas couldn’t understand why that meant he couldn’t be, though… Oh well. After tomorrow’s session, he’d indulge himself in the human pleasures that had consoled him since… then. And he’d forget all about Chuck and toilet paper and Dean and his anger.
